In accordance with Renewal by Andersen®’s belief that energy efficiency depends on the performance of the whole window, we talk about the one of the three component factors that truly defines it for us: glass. While we do pay particular attention towards the framing material and the installation process, the glass is where the magic (according to kids), and the science application (according to adults), happens.
The kind of Hutchinson windows that we offer at Renewal by Andersen of Kansas are available in three different glass options that may, initially, not seem so different from each other. Examined more closely, though the differences and the varying degrees of the benefits they bring becomes apparent: heating, cooling, ultraviolet protection, and visible light transfer.
Choosing the most appropriate glass options for your home should be based on four factors: (1) climate, (2) your home’s architectural design, (3) the direction your windows face in relation to the position of the sun, and (4) the custom climate you want to create.
1. High-Performance™ Low-E4® glass (standard)
Being the standard bearer of the Renewal by Andersen glass options, it offers basic protection. This glass option is 56% more energy-efficient in summer and 45% more efficient in winter than you average dual-pane glass. It can also block 83% of ultraviolet rays.
2. High-Performance Low-E4 SmartSun® glass
When compared to the others, we can say that this is perhaps the most energy-efficient glass option we have ever offered. It is 70% more efficient in summer and 47% more efficient in winter than your average dual-pane glass. It can block both the sun’s heat and 95% of ultraviolet rays.
3. High-Performance Low-E4 Sun™ glass
This glass option has the highest solar heat gain coefficient when compared to the other glass options. It comes with tint coatings that are able to reduce the amount of visible light that enters through it and enters your home.
