The overall performance of replacement windows depends on the quality of the glass. It could mean improving your home’s energy efficiency or it could be a virtual freeway for heat loss. This is why all Renewal by Andersen® replacement windows feature glass packages carefully designed to meet even the most discriminating homeowner’s requirements.
Why Dual Panel Glass is Important
Glass is naturally conductive, which makes windows an indoor heating problem if single panel window glass is the only option available. A single panel glass facilitates thermal transfer, which results in heat loss during cold days and heat gain during hot days. This would prompt occupants to compensate by turning up the heating or cooling as appropriate. The increased indoor heating and cooling requirements results in inflated energy bills.
The available insulation materials have been so far made of opaque materials, obviously unsuitable for window glass. The solution, therefore, is by creating an airspace between two glass panels because a vacuum reduces thermal transfer. An optional gas fill (usually argon or krypton) enhances insulation. A layer of low-emissivity (Low-E) coating on one of the inner glass surfaces takes care of another significant heat source: infrared rays, or heat from the sun.
Our Energy-Efficient Glass Options
At Renewal by Andersen, we offer dual panel window glass on all our replacement windows, with two glass packages that take care of all your indoor cooling needs.
